Leave it better than you found it. The first time I heard these lines was when I was proactively procrastinating, meaning watching a concerning amount of YouTube videos to distract me. A video by Inky Johnson came up in my suggestions. Thank the algorithm! it did the job.
He goes over his life story and quotes the lines he saw in a bathroom stall, ‘Leave it better than you found it and he carried them as a mantra for how he lived.
The idea of regardless of how you found the place, you will leave it in a state that the next person will appreciate.
This is totally nuts for some people. Going through the work and suffering to make things better or easier for the next person is as foreign as the Lamborghini in my garage.
But you have to stop and think of how wonderful it is that the time you are stuck and need a free template or an answer to a problem all you have to do is google it. Those people left the internet a better place.
Leaving places better than you found them doesn’t pay you directly. What you do get is satisfaction. The satisfaction that someone’s life is easier and happier because of something I did. This probably explains or the torrent websites.
Don’t overthink it, not everyone is Bruce Wayne, but you could improve the work environment by always saying hi or being polite. That goes a long way. Or just Keeping your neighborhood clean or donating. These are just some small ways you can leave this place a whole lot better than you found it.
