Our Secret Human Superpower
The only thing constant is change, this is true for all things except homo-sapiens, who have democratized it. Their environments decay and reorganize, while their bodies age, but in the metaphysical space, they choose to change or stay the same. They fight any inclination to be and at the same time decide to be different. Aware but unaware of the revolutions the earth makes. To this creature, it is all optional. The power to choose to change is a beautiful superpower that cuts both ways.
I met someone over 50 with the conduct of a 15-year-old, the main difference between them and a juvenile was blood pressure. Their mind is trapped in a time capsule. I asked myself, how has someone lived 3 times longer and not changed at all? Simple, It was optional.
Life happens to all of us but whether we learn from it, or allow ourselves to grow and change is entirely up to us. Time only matures our physical bodies not our minds. You spending time doing something doesn’t mean you are getting better. An experience doesn’t automatically lead to change. We have to opt in and be deliberate on the change we want or don’t want to happen to us. And deciding not to is letting go of the wheel, covering our eyes, and hoping it turns out okay. I am sorry, Jesus won’t take that wheel.
We have the wonderful power to choose to be or not to be affected by a world that is constantly in transit, from summer to winter to inflation hikes. With that power comes a responsibility to use it carefully (Yes, finally quoted Spiderman). Choose or choose not to change, it is all in your hands. In the end all we have are our choices.
