Why you shouldn’t spend time with people your age
Because it is bad for you. That’s it. That is the short answer but at least I didn’t waste your time right? Fine. I will give you the long-winded version.
Spending time with people your age is not comforting because every time you meet it is like the Pokemon club but you guys don’t compare Pokemon instead you low-key compare jobs, relationships/marriage, car, career, house, and so on. Gotta catch them all right?
But you can learn a lot by spending time with people younger or older than you. People younger than you and older actually remind you to embrace life. Look at the simple and enjoy it. To not only laugh and love more but to also allow yourself to be vulnerable. And strangely remind you how lucky you are to be at your age.
Spending time with kids does psychologically makes you happier and reduces anxiety. I am not a doctor but this is a medical fact drawn from extensive hours trying to raise other peoples’ children. Everything to them seems like magic, they have an undying curiosity to figuring out what and why something is. Which most of us start to lose as we get older and conform to just taking it as it is. but that curiosity is a key part of starting a great business, being effective at any job, and navigating adulthood.
Kids willingly shy away at things they have never tried, like anything. You don’t like it? Nope. Why not? I just don’t. However, after their first bite or ride, they fall in love with it and you can’t pull them away. And we are like that, afraid to try new things cause of made-up fears from who knows where. But then, after we take the leap on moving to that town, going that date, or posting that blog we realize, hey, I actually liked that.
Each time you dedicate an afternoon or evening to them, you are reminded that you were that small, that naive, that fragile, and definitely that disgusting. Now, look how far you have come. A reminder of the victor you are and much further you can go. Which to me sounds like a pretty good reason to spend time with kids.
